Principal's Message
Greetings Parents and Guardians of Teaticket Students,
Welcome to Teaticket and the beginning of a new school year. As teachers and administrators, our mission is to educate students so that they are engaged in their education in a way that develops their capacity to pursue their goals and foster life-long learning. We all have a very important job to do as every word or action can send a message to a child. At the Teaticket School, we all work hard to send the message that all students can be successful and reach their potential even when things get challenging.
At one time people used to think that our intelligence was fixed, meaning we were either smart or not. However, scientists have proven again and again that simply is not true. Our brain acts like a muscle, the more we use it, the stronger (and smarter) our brain becomes. This idea is referred to as the growth mindset!
Growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts, your strategies, and help from others. The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it even or especially when it's not going well is the hallmark of the growth mindset. A fixed mindset is the opposite, it is when you believe that your qualities are carved in stone. This fixed mindset makes you concerned with how you will be judged vs. the growth mindset which makes you concerned with improving.
It is important for us all to remember that test scores and measures of achievement tell us where a child is today, but they don't tell us where a child could end up. Let’s work together this school year to praise effort, use of strategies and seeking help when needed so all students can develop a growth mindset and reach their true potential!
Warmest Regards,
Sandy Kapsambelis
